Hussey: a brazen, immoral, mischievous or ill-mannered girl.

Hussey Notes was born atop my bed on my 27th birthday the week I moved to Los Angeles. I was alone, broke, having boy troubles, carried one suitcase with my possessions and had just left living in Europe for 6 years to follow my dream of being a working actor. I missed my friends, the creatives, my people. There was so much swimming in my head the only thing I could do was flush it out of there and onto my computer. So I did just that and then let it drift into cyberspace. The response to my first few articles were more than I anticipated as I woke up to peers, besties and people I hadn’t talked to since high school, all relating to these feelings I had so vulnerably shared. The common thread between them all was this hunger for adventure and distaste for the mundane. I felt less alone in this new big city at the bottom of the ladder. I remembered the community I was apart of and could find, no matter my drop pin location. This community that understands there is no creation without risk, and in order to make an impact in the world one must push themselves outside of their comfort zone. To most, this is unnerving, unsettling and kind of incomprehensible as an idea of how to live life. And that’s totally fine. But to others, this need to push, propel and provoke is how we contribute to society by shifting the ordinary.

The articles, excerpts, editorials, photography, art, film and whatever else encapsulates space on this tech-pad, are here to engage, encourage and cultivate a community. We are here to learn from each other. Grow as artists through discussion and collaboration. Be inspired by individual journeys. Bolster one another’s work and efforts as they will surely return the gracious favor.

My Mothers maiden name is Hussey. Note the Oxford English Dictionary’s description above and that the correct spelling has no E. We can apply Hussey in a few different ways… To women who desire to have it all: career, family, health, happiness and financial success. To the artists and creative entrepreneurs who see the world in such a unique way that they dedicate their lives to swim up the stream of the status quo in hopes to expand minds through the senses. To the people who work their asses off. So to all of the Hussey’s out there: Let’s take it on together and share our wealth of knowledge to only better this fabulous community.

I am a working actor, model, creative producer and former pro-dancer from Vancouver, British Columbia residing in Los Angeles. My first job was in my Aunties cafe at age 13, learning how to cook alongside her and my mum. Since then I’ve been a butcher, a baker (my mum really is a candlestick maker), barista, bartender, hostess, waitress, shoe saleswoman, cigarette girl, Jagermeister shot girl, gogo dancer, contemporary company dancer, cruise ship dancer, teacher, choreographer, stunt woman and student. Since 2009, I’ve been living, traveling, working and studying across North America and Europe. Los Angeles has happily been my home since 2017, now partners in crime with my fiancé, Grant and kitty-kat, Maurice.
